Bundaberg Australia
Historic Bundaberg city, an easy four hours' drive from Brisbane,
marks the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. With gracious
old buildings, it's famous for its sugar and rum-making history
and blessed with unspoilt beaches, proximity to coral islands
and rambling hinterland
The Bundaberg district produces one fifth of Queensland's
sugar crop. This is the only place where the entire range
of sugar production activities occur; growing, milling, refining,
research and distilling. Bundaberg rum is by far Australia's
best selling spirit. Bundaberg boasts 140 kilometres of golden,
unspoilt beaches to play, swim, fish or witness wildlife go
about its business.
Try popular Elliot Heads, or Coral Cove and Innes Park for
the best inshore dive sites, or spot kangaroos in Wood gate
Beach. A sense of history, wilderness adventure, rural experiences
and warm country hospitality are facts of the Bundaberg region,
and it’s hard to choose where to start exploring in
this richly diverse area. This is the first place Captain
James Cook landed on the 24/05/1770.
