Skiing In Australia
The Skiing season in Australia is opposite to that in the
northern hemisphere. Between the months of June to August
you will be able to ski in the following areas in Australia,
New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. The most popular areas
are within a few hours drive of Sydney. Thredbo and Perisher
Blue are the ski resorts located closest to Sydney.
Charlotte Pass is the highest and oldest ski resort it may
also be the most remote. This resort only allows a maximum
of 600 visitors to the area at any one time so you can pretty
much guarantee a great day of skiing. Perisher Blue is a large
ski area with four resorts that’s spread over seven
mountains. Thredbo is one of Australia’s most popular
ski resorts. As well as boasting the longest vertical in the
country at 2,200 feet, its impressive runs are complemented
by extensive artificial snowmaking - a necessity due to its
relatively low base elevation of 4,478 feet - meaning exhilarating
top to bottom runs and guaranteed snow cover.
It also boasts a great beginners’ area, loads of accommodation
options and some of the best après-ski in the Snowy
Mountains. Thredbo village and its numerous ski resorts boast
an atmosphere reminiscent of large European alpine resorts.
Its intuitive layout means it never takes long to hit the
slopes, making up for the lack of ski-in ski-out accommodation.
Comprehensive facilities include childcare and medical facilities,
ski and snowboard hire, a renowned ski school, shops, banks,
supermarkets and a post office.
