Surfing in Australia
Australia is home to some of the best waves in the world
also the surfers. You have three places to choose from to
surf in Australia the east, south or west coast no surfing
takes place in the North mainly because of the stingers and
salt water crocodiles. The East Coast can get extremely busy
everyone here surfs and is good beginners may have problems
finding a quite spot here.
If you want to avoid the crowds then keep clear of the gold
coast and Sydney. The weather here is great and the sea is
warm consistent swells come in winter (May-Aug) however the
summer months are just as good. The main surfing along the
south coast is the great ocean road. Bells beach is probably
the most popular spot however there are plenty of others to
choose from. This coastline gets plenty of swell and again
is best in the winter months. However the sea temperature
on the south coast is cold all year round so remember the
wet suit.
The west coast again has the best waves during the winter
months but does not attract the same crowds as the east coast.
The further north you travel you start to leave the crowds
behind and find some classic empty waves. A trip to rottenest
island of the west coast is well worth it if you are looking
for some decent surf. Australia is a great country to surf
just beware of the crowds however if you are willing to look
you will find empty waves.
